January 10, 2012
Shady Lane Sportsman’s Club Meeting Minutes
The treasurer’s report with was read and approved.
The secretary’s report was read and approved.

Old Business:

The Snow Pros steak fry went well except for one glitch, the grill wouldn’t work. From now on there will be 2 extra thermocouples and wrenches on hand to fix the grill so this doesn’t happen in the future. The number of people attending this function has dropped from 100 to 80 people and possibly only 70 next year.

There are only 4 people signed up for the Shady Lane Steak Fry on Jan 14th at the clubhouse. Contact Kermit (320-864-3856) if you would like to attend. It is $15 for a T-bone steak and $12 for 1 pork chop, $15 for 2 chops, all with baked potato, salad, etc. It was suggested that next time we offer chicken breast also. We will find out what Brownton charges for their chicken and go with that price next time. There will be another steak fry on the 21st, contact Larry (320-864-5223) for more information on that one.

The police shoot went well with only one neighbor complaining as Kermit forgot to contact him beforehand.

New Business:

We need ice! We are at the mercy of the weather in regard to the fishing contest. We may have to have the games (bowling, golf and bean bags) at the clubhouse. We need volunteers to sell meat raffle tickets and board squares during and after the contest at the clubhouse. We need a couple volunteers to make breakfast for the corn give away from 7am till 10 or so. We also have 250 burgers and buns and need food volunteers from 10 until 3 or so. If you wish to volunteer contact Bob (H 320-864-6587 or C 320-510-0458). After all our steak fries are all over there will be a Fishing Contest Committee meeting scheduled, let Bob know if you would like to attend this meeting also. There are still tickets to sell, contact Pat (320-864-3491) if you need some to sell. Hoochie has ear and shell corn for the corn give away and breakfast. We need to put out the wood duck houses for sale during the breakfast. Also, we need to limit the corn to one bushel per person. Doug will get eggs and potatoes for breakfast and Kermit will make the chili for the fishing contest.

Snow Pros want us to come to them with a proposal for food plots and they will work with us to pay for some of it. Their meeting is the first Tuesday of the month, Hoochie will attend this meeting.

Pheasants Forever is asking for our sponsorship again this year. They don’t put anything into raising birds as they are all about buying land. After much discussion it was decided that we need to keep our money for our own projects. A motion was made, seconded and approved not to sponsor Pheasants Forever this year.

We spent about $1800 on pheasants and feed last year. We may want to also go with adult laying hens this year. We will discuss the type and amount of pheasants we want to buy at the next meeting. If anyone is interested in raising pheasants or knows of a good place to purchase them contact Larry (320-864-5223).

Skeet Shoot – (see "2012 Shady Clay Summer League" below). The tower will need to be fixed before this league starts. The pistol range can be open while clays are going.

Gun training will be held April 27th through April 29th at the clubhouse.

The plywood needs to be replaced on the 100-yard range. Fiberboard was suggested instead as it has more longevity and is half the price.

Motion to adjourn, meeting adjourned.

The next meeting will be February 14th at 7:30pm, Happy Valentines Day!

2012 Shady Clay Summer League
Welcome to the Shady Clay Summer League. You have the chance to shoot in a mixed clay event before the monthly meeting from April through September, allowing that the range is open. Makeup sessions may be added, but you will be allowed to shoot ahead or catch up as necessary. Proposed: Shooting will begin at 5:30 and end 7:15 to ensure we are done before the club meeting begins. You are encouraged to arrive as early as possible to ensure the chance to shoot.

No restrictions on shotgun gauge or loads. However, in some instances two targets will be presented so be prepared to shoot doubles.

This will be an individual event, not a team event. Proposed: Winnings will be a 50 / 50 payout, half to a single winner and half going back to Shady Lane.

Proposed: Entry fee is $10 per person. Each round will cost $5. On any given week any number of rounds may be shot, identified as practice or league. By the end of the sixth session, score cards for 10 league rounds must be recorded.

Scoring: total cumulative score for the 10 weeks will identify the winner. In the case of a cumulative tie, the shooter with the best single round(s) will win. If two shooters have the same number of best single rounds, then the shooter with the worst single round will become the winner. Further tie breakers to be determined as necessary.

Volunteers are requested to help with the event. You will have the chance to shoot on the nights you help. Please contact Brett at 612-998-6286 or 952-442-5430 to volunteer or for more information. A volunteer schedule will be available starting at the February meeting. I’d like at least 2 others to help rotate with me at each meeting.

A warm-up plan will be scheduled for the first full weekend of April, open range permitting.
